La Cámara de los Comunes del Reino Unido aprobó hoy por una mayoría de 356 votos frente a 166, de un total de 658 diputados, prohibir la caza del zorro, en una sesión que hubo de ser suspendida temporalmente por la irrupción de cinco activistas.
Después de varias horas de encendido debate, la mayoría de los diputados respaldó el controvertido proyecto, que el Gobierno del primer ministro, Tony Blair, presentó por primera vez hace siete años, difundió EFE.
La sesión parlamentaria se prolongará hasta las diez de la noche a fin de discutir los pormenores de la ley.
El debate fue suspendido esta tarde y reanudado a los veinte minutos después de que cinco furiosos manifestantes irrumpieran en la Cámara de los Comunes y sembraran el caos, antes de ser detenidos por la Policía.
Violando todas las medidas de seguridad, los activistas lograron colarse en el pleno y acercarse a la tribuna del presidente, ante la sorpresa de los diputados, que en ese momento estudiaban el proyecto de ley gubernamental.
Mientras, a las puertas del Parlamento, en el centro de Londres, unos diez mil manifestantes convocados por la asociación Alianza del Campo protestaban contra la ley, y causaron incidentes violentos que provocaron la intervención de la Policía antidisturbios.
El Gobierno laborista -que hoy dio el voto libre a sus parlamentarios- ha adelantado que si la Cámara Alta vuelve a menoscabar la decisión de los Comunes, utilizará la llamada Ley Parlamentaria de 1949 para sancionarla sin su aprobación.
El Gobierno propone que la prohibición en Inglaterra y Gales -en Escocia, la práctica ya está abolida-, entre en vigor en 2006, para que los afectados tengan tiempo de adaptarse.

On a free vote, MPs came out in favour of the ban - by 356 votes to 166, a majority of 190.
Rural Affairs Minister Alun Michael told the Commons the issue had taken up Parliament's time year after year and must be brought to a conclusion.
The Government had been "patient" and had "tried to get the two sides to listen to each other and to find ways forward that were less divisive than the two extremes which are so shrill on this debate".
He warned: "But it has become clear that the views are so polarised that it's impossible to deal with in that way."
The Bill is being rushed through the Commons in a single day, and the Government has made clear that if the Lords oppose the move the Parliament Act will be invoked to ensure it becomes law.
But the already bitter debate was marred by the clashes outside Parliament and another extraordinary security lapse in the Commons with protesters haranguing Mr Michael in the chamber before being finally wrestled to the ground and bundled out by security staff.
