The streets of Godelleta are stained with blood during their bullfighting fiestas

This past Sunday, July 7, Godelleta, a small municipality in the Valencian Community, was the scene of a tragic incident during one of its traditional bullfighting festivals. At 9 a.m., a bull with a rope tied to its horns was released to run through the streets of the town. This past Sunday, July 7, Godelleta, a small municipality in the Valencian Community, was the scene of a tragic incident during one of its traditional bullfighting festivals. At 9 a.m., a bull with a rope tied to its horns was released to run through the streets of the town. At one point during the run, the young men pulled on the rope just as the bull began to run, causing the animal to slip and break a horn. The bull began to bleed profusely and cry out in pain, filling the street with blood as it tried unsuccessfully to get up, while the young men continued pulling on the rope.

Distressed by what she saw, a neighbor took out her phone and started recording the scene. However, upon noticing they were being filmed, some of the participants reacted violently, threatening her. One of the young men even attempted to throw a piece of iron at her. The situation became even more tense when the whole town gathered under her balcony, staring up at her house to intimidate her and make her fear for her safety.

The bull, after much suffering, was eventually placed in a container and then into a livestock transport truck. Rarely are these animals attended to by veterinarians; instead, they are typically slaughtered as they are no longer useful for these types of festivities. Normally, they are isolated and then removed to be discarded at a slaughterhouse.

From AnimaNaturalis and CAS International, we encourage citizens to send this letter addressed to the mayor of Godelleta, María Amparo Pardo Luján (PP), denouncing the events and requesting the cessation of these festivities. Social pressure and the courage of witnesses to this kind of cruelty are the only tools we currently have to prevent such incidents from happening again.

This accident is not an isolated case but a regrettable example of the dangers and suffering these animals face during popular festivals in Spain. The images of the bloodied bull have sparked a wave of outrage among animal rights advocates and citizens concerned about animal welfare.

Translation of the letter into English:

Dear Mrs. Pardo Luján,

We are writing to express our deep concern about the unfortunate incident that occurred on Sunday, July 7, during the bullfighting festivities in your municipality, where a bull with a rope tied to its horns suffered a serious injury by breaking a horn after a fall, bleeding profusely.

This tragic event once again highlights the suffering to which these animals are subjected during popular celebrations. The situation in Godelleta is not unique; unfortunately, it is repeated in many towns across our country where the use of bulls in festive events is permitted. Tradition can no longer be an excuse for animal abuse and suffering.

We urge you, as the highest authority of Godelleta, to consider banning this type of spectacle in your municipality. We understand that culture and traditions are important, but we also firmly believe that it is possible to evolve towards celebrations that do not involve the suffering of living beings.

In this regard, we request that the following measures be taken:

  1. Ban on bullfighting events: Implement municipal regulations that prohibit any event involving the use of bulls, thus avoiding future accidents and unnecessary suffering.
  2. Promotion of alternative festivities: Encourage cultural and recreational activities that do not involve animals, demonstrating that it is possible to enjoy our traditions in an ethical and respectful manner towards animal life.
  3. Education and awareness: Develop awareness campaigns for the public about the importance of animal welfare and respect for all forms of life.

We hope that our request will be heard and addressed, and that Godelleta can be an example of modernity and compassion, leading a necessary change in our society.

Thank you for your attention, and we remain at your disposal for any questions or future collaboration.

Sincerely,
